Evolution, Revolution.
Evolution is not something that happens to us, in the same way that circulating your blood isn’t something that happens to you. Many of us may feel that involuntary events happen to us, but if that was the case, what is left? What are we? What do you mean by us or I? You are your blood, bones, skin, mind, thoughts and eyes! Nature isn’t this separate thing that you belong to. You are nature. You...

Michael Robinson - Flickerette
Check out Michael Robinson’s short film shot on the new Lomokino camera from Lomography. He painstakingly scanned and edited the frames himself into this short but lush collection of moving images: http://vimeo.com/34046340 Michael has used an audio excerpt of a piece I made a while back called ‘Hedged In’ which was part of an ongoing project called ‘Relay’, curated...

How Japan changed the sound of the world
Something I’ve thought about for a while, a thought usually triggered by me switching on my gear when I sit down and start to write a track… Music has come in many forms throughout the decades, changing and evolving more rapidly during the 20th century than ever before. Every decade had a distinct sound, even half decades have a distinct sound: early 90s vs late 90s for example, and...

The Guitar & Bibio
I have recorded a bunch of video clips showing how I play various Bibio songs on the guitar. Some of the pieces use alternate tunings, such as open G, the tunings for each song will be displayed in the video. These videos are intended as casual ‘how-to’ guides, as there is no official tablature for any of my songs these videos may be of use to those who wish to learn the pieces on the...

FOUND: MR & MRS COMPOST
Mr & Mrs Compost Succulent, ready to be twisted off The leaves are warm and the stones are hot The distant houses seem to melt with the vast open glowing air The almost steaming ragged wood of the oak trunks And the sweating walk The ease of the wagging boughs layering wavering shadows A story tells me that there is a couple there Buried ‘neath the twisted roots Older than the...

Hush...
We are sick with fascination for the useful tools of names and numbers, of symbols, signs, conceptions and ideas. Meditation is therefore the art of suspending verbal and symbolic thinking for a time, somewhat as a courteous audience will stop talking when a concert is about to begin. (Alan Watts)

ありがとうございます。
Just returned from Japan. The most amazing country I’ve ever visited, and the nicest people I’ve ever encountered. I was sad to leave. Thank you to all the people who attended the Taico Club Festival, thank you to all the artists, organizers and crew, especially Masa, Laura and Maiko. I look forward to returning to Japan.  Back in England now, sitting here in my Yakuta still dizzy...

Congratulations to Gotye
I said in the announcement of my remix of Gotye’s “Somebody That I Used To Know” that I thought his song deserved to be a hit… well it has reached number 1 in Australia. Didn’t take long did it? :) Congratulations Wally.

On a more positive note
It’s easy to be angry right now, and it’s easy to be disappointed in the younger generations. But people need to see that this isn’t an age thing, a race thing, a rich vs poor thing. Even if the majority of rioters were of a certain race, age or background, those are not the reasons behind this, and to blame any one group of people is simplistic and not very helpful. Perhaps I...

Lord of the Flies dressed by Adidas
Trying to get my head around all this rioting in England… I grew up in a West Midlands housing estate, I went to a comprehensive school, I’ve worked in a warehouse, worked in pubs and taught 16+ year olds at a college - I’ve seen these dormant rioters, I’ve seen their lack of reason, their lack of interest and their extreme materialism. I don’t believe there is any...

Bibio remixes Gotye
Gotye has released an amazing new single called “Somebody That I Used To Know”. It deserves to be a hit in my eyes. It is a hit in my ears. I was honoured to be asked to remix. I did my usual thing of trying to make it harmonically different to the original yet keeping the main vocal line pretty much in tact. Here’s a link: ...

Further to the ‘Message to Brighton’ below - I’d like to add that everybody being turfed out of the venue while Battles’ gear was cleared off stage was the reason why so many people didn’t return for the after show party. I don’t blame them, it was a warm night on a seafront in a town with plenty to do. What should have happened is that a DJ played during the...

Message to Brighton
Apologies to all the people who attended Bibio and Chris Clark’s shows after the Battles show at Concorde 2 on Friday 3rd June. The venue folks decided shortly before I was due on stage that they were only going to stay open until 2am, instead of 4am, on the grounds that “it wasn’t worth staying open”. They were claiming the decision was based on the delays caused by Battles’ tour bus breaking...
